  I am an artist and teacher in Fort worth Texas. I work in several media. I received my BFA in studio art in 1982. I have been creating jewelry for about six years. I also work in clay, watercolor, tooled metal, paper, and glass. I create objects in 2-d and 3-d. I make wearable pieces like jewelry as well as frameable mixed-media works such as paintings, metal relief plaques, drawings, collage and watercolor paintings. Recently, I have included some of my antiqued metal relief crosses and sacred hearts. The hearts are inspired by Latin American folk religion. The crosses represent my faith and my overall love of time-honored symbols.

  In 2008 I took a trip to Kenya with my son, Zane Wilemon’s non-profit organization, Comfort the Children International. (www.ctcinternational.org) Upon my return, I took a class on Fused Glass at my friend’s, Buffy Hall’s studio and learned a new medium of art.  I have always loved creating with my hands whether it be sewing, knitting, crocheting, etc. I wanted to be able to give back to the people in Kenya, so decided to continue making jewelry as an ongoing fund raiser for CTC.  In the process, I have learned to work with wire and beading and it seems there is no limit to what I am able to design.  I love creating with all the colors of glass beads & wire while being able to use my college background in Fashion & Design.

  The Jilted Quilt is a Retro UFO Rescue Agency dedicated to providing jilted vintage unfinished quilt tops (UFOs) a new purpose. 

  Textiles have always been a warm and fuzzy for me. I have been a borderline vintage textile hoarder since I took home economics in High School. There isn’t a decade of fabric that I can’t find something that inspires me.

  I started quilting in 2007 after my father died. I was feeling sad because my son had experienced his first heartbreak and I had nothing that belonged to my father that was heirloom quality to give my son.

  A few months prior to my father’s death, we lost our family home to a fire.  I couldn’t stop thinking about all of the quilts made by my narcoleptic 80 year Aunt Claudine. She was a rockstar quilter. One minute she was quilting the next she was napping with needle in hand.

  I am going to be honest….some of our family quilts were ugly. It didn’t matter because they were part of our family history. Aunt Claudine’s were NEVER ugly…she knew the color wheel.

  I am allergic to traditional quilting. Piecing makes my mental gears jam.

  To save myself from piecing, I searched for unfinished jilted quilt tops at every yard sale and thrift store I could find. It disturbed me that anyone could sell the quilt top their grandmother made them. It became my guilty pleasure until my husband had the NERVE to ask me…..”What exactly are you going to do with these?”

  The women at the quilt shop where I took my classes mentored and encouraged me to take my quilting to a different level. The crazier my ideas…the louder they cheered. I discovered appliqué and the heavens opened up!!!

  Before I knew it, I was in possession of a Bernina embroidery machine, a custom painted powder coated red and metal fleck Ken Quilt long arm machine and 22 vintage quilt tops.

  With the loving support of my husband and son and the help of Marge (my embroidery machine) and Skully (my long arm machine substitution for a Harley Davidson Fat Boy) the Jilted Quilt was born.

  The Jilted Quilt is the home of Mintage and Tottoo quilts. A mintage quilt is one of my modern appliqué tops paired with a jilted vintage top. The quilt becomes reversible with a new quilt on one side and a vintage quilt on the other. A Tottoo quilt is a collection of vintage tattoo inspired baby quilts made from vintage reproduction fabrics.

  If you prefer to customize or complete your own quilt by choosing a top and backing, just Convo me. I can mix and match anything you like.

  Keep checking because you never know how the UFO will be used.

I strive to create a story that develops in the mind of the viewer. In these stories, my work shows the viewer a moment in time, but it is up to the viewer to decide where the story will lead. Some of the more abstracted, non-representational works deal with my interest in color and movement. My inspiration is drawn from my travels, including the nature and wildlife in the various places I visit.
